With our World leaders having returned from Copenhagen after investing their time, energy, and the public's resources to hammer out a framework for reducing the impact we're having on our environment, I was enthused and inspired by their dedication to do what was right for our planet and future generations.
It's encouraging to see the environment become a key issue for governments around the world. With the Global recession and government bailout of the finance and automotive sectors, much of the new growth that is coming now and in the next few years will be government funded. With a socially and environmentally focused government, this means a greater emphasis on "social responsibility" by all companies that seek the support and/or funding from government.
One of the largest topics over the coming years will be in finding innovative ways to reduce your "carbon footprint" (the amount of carbon dioxide your activities are responsible for contributing to the atmosphere, and global warming).
InfiniteEARTH, is an innovative organization that is offering "carbon credits" to companies that want to reduce their carbon footprint. InfiniteEARTH is helping preserve forests and save endangered animals (e.g. Orangutans in Borneo) by buying forest protection rights and converting them to "carbon credits" they can sell to corporations.
According to InfiniteEARTH, "The carbon output from Deforestation accounts for 20% of all greenhouse gases, far more than any other source. Peat Swamp Forests in Borneo alone hold up to 70 times the carbon emitted annually by the combustion of fossil fuels world-wide. Yet, it has been estimated that the equivalent of a football field per minute is disappearing due to the slash and burn practices of the palm oil industry."
So what does this mean for all of us? InfiniteEARTH is offering creative ways for corporations and individuals to reduce their carbon footprint together. For example, a program where you can make a charitable donation through your company where the donation is matched by the company. The donation serves a dual purpose as you're reducing the carbon footprint while your company receives the "carbon credit" for having made a matching donation. Pretty creative, eh?
How you can do your part: Simply ask your company about including this program in their options of charitable giving. Have them contact InfiniteEARTH to learn more.
